Title: Decreased Situational Awareness Shown In Small Cities; A View.

This article aims to show decreased situational awareness. This is typically common in some places like an island anywhere or even like in the Philippines, which is famous for being an archipelago Author: (Smith, C. M.), (2025). While living in a small town may be peaceful, it always has its downsides. The smaller the town = smaller the population, and smaller the crimes. Because of this, (typically) some provinces have low crime rates. As cited by Deb Gordon, (2024) "Overall, small cities and towns have 48% lower crime costs than larger cities." With that, Lower crime rate = Lower the situational awareness. Since crimes aren't so often in there, peoples guard can be easily let down and surrendered deliberately due to said thing. While lack of situational awareness in itself is a bad thing, it also causes lots of problems for everyone else in the long run. Many examples are: People not knowing where they're standing or walking, walking instead on the side of the street instead of using the side walk. People standing in front of a door or in front of counters, which could inconvenience a lot of people. They are also less reactive to situations due to their lack of environmental awareness. Additionally, some may not know how to drive properly or are uneducated in operating locomotion or just generally don't know the rules of driving. Common in people without any driver’s license. Compared to City people: People who live in the city are more aware at what they're doing and what type of situation they are in. This is because cities have more higher crime rates and also population, And there are a variety of situations to be put in there. Why population? Population is also a factor because, there are lots of cars and people. Because of this, people are more skilled at navigating the road and seeing where they're driving or heading to. On the other hand, if you're a worker at a restaurant and you have more customers to serve, you're more likely to be aware of your situation and thinking ahead of time. Why higher crime rates? If you live in a city, chances are, you’ve witnessed car accidents, gang fights, shootings, or you've at least heard of it. As aforementioned, The smaller the town = smaller the population, and smaller the crimes. Well, It's vice versa for bigger cities. The bigger the city, the bigger the population, and that means bigger the crimes. Being in a bigger city means being susceptible to dangerous situations or situations that demand your attention. Because of this, Also vice versa; Situational awareness is increased. How to solve, prevent, and avoid this? You may not like this, but watching the news and keeping track of whats happening in your city helps you to be more cautious and careful of your surroundings. Additionally, Taking small vacations or trips to larger cities help. Watching true crime documentaries also contribute to this factor. Or, generally, just paying attention to your physical and or mental surroundings help. Like discussions, seeing where you're standing, can help. Also implementing awareness about situational awareness in school can help to teach the youth. Low situational awareness comes with inappropriate behavior, too. Since some people are not exposed to a variety of things, they may freak at seeing a person of different race in real life. This is common on islands with towns. I've experienced it before. It's not common with people of Korean or Netherlands race, as they probably view it as an 'aesthetic' or 'cute' race. For me, they flip at seeing an American because it's not viewed as cute.
